Boundaries Between Disciplines and Boundaries in the Mind

Summary

Boundaries are everywhere in our world. My collaborators and I consider the boundaries or divisions between disciplines, between fields of knowledge, to be only one of many sorts of boundaries inside and outside our heads. We have studied the thickness and thinness of boundaries, starting with the boundaries in our minds. We believe that a study of boundaries in the broadest sense will be useful to us in numerous ways as this paper will discuss. Eventually such a study should help us better organize our disciplines and indeed our entire lives.
