Raghavendra Gadagkar is also the founding Chairman of the Centre for Contemporary Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, a bold new initiative attempting to integrate the natural sciences with the social sciences, humanities, arts and literature and create a unified perspective on the production of knowledge. He is an Honorary Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, a Non-Resident Permanent Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and a Foreign Associate of the American National Academy of Sciences
